The need to achieve and have wealth at our disposal has unarguably increased the numbers and activities of hackers and fraudsters. People want to hit it big. They want to call the shots without putting in much work. They want to be their own bosses and self made. This insatiable need for money and the pressure to achieve it is visibly seen in our quest for wealth. Cybercriminals do anything, all it takes to make sure money is made faster and is made in very high returns. Little wonder we suffer daily from fraudsters who are desperately coming up with more complicated methods and schemes. They combine just anything to get money off your hands; employing any means possible, from technology, letters, calls and just anything that could pique ones interest. They no longer target the gullible, right now their schemes have been extended to any available person. Generally, we may not be able to completely prevent fraud altogether, but we can take steps to protect ourselves and avoid being a victim.

Here are 5 ways to completely stay out of fraudsters and protect our growing money.

  1. Don’t Pay Upfront For A Promise

There have been cases of people who were asked to pay a certain amount of money in return for something and they never got it. Someone might ask you to pay in advance for things like bank charges, credit and loan offers, mortgage assistance, or a job. They might even say you’ve won a prize, but first you have to pay taxes or fees. Be careful of such messages, they’re all scams.

  1. Slow Down

One of the very big characteristics of these fraudsters is speed on job. These con artists wants you to make your decisions in a hurry- just imagine someone working so hard and fast  to make you bankrupt with speed. That’s their one of their strategies. Some even threaten with deadlines, loss of accounts, amongst others. So in scenarios like this; you relax make some strategic researches call someone you TRUST who’s got some knowledge before giving any personal information out. Yes TRUST because scammers can just be anybody even our family members.

  1. Do Online Researches

Type a company or product name into your favorite search engine with keywords like “review,” “complaint” or “scam.”  You can even search for phone numbers to see if other people have reported them as scams. Many of these organizations are known for scams already and your ignorance wouldn’t prevent them for making more money. Thus whenever that pay for interview job or opportunity comes up; do well to do your researches.

  1. Don’t Always Believe Your Call IDs

Technology makes it easy for scammers to fake caller ID information, so the name and number you see aren’t always real. If someone calls asking for money or personal information, hang up. If you think the caller might be telling the truth, call back to a number you know is genuine.

  1. Keep Your Information Secret

Information is the key to successful scam operation. Every fraudster needs accurate and weighty information about any area that they want to take advantage of. Thus your best protection is to know when to share and when to keep your information to yourself. For instance: giving the three-security code at the back of your ATM or your BVN number to a stranger or careless disposal of  unneeded documents like receipts, statements or credit card applications, might just be you shooting yourself in the leg. Make sure to destroy them before they hit the recycling bin.
